  EA Access
Posted by: Pres - 16-08-2014, 07:51 PM - Forum: Games - Replies (3)

So, anyone else dipped a toe in to this. I have taken out a month and, then cancelled to stop auto renew. I might take the hit of a year when my current month ends on the 12/9/14 as, thus far I have had plenty of time out of FIFA alone to fully cover the £3.99 spent.

A few full title 5 day demos as the year goes on will also be worth the £19.99 in addition to the vault games. Sadly, my guess is the next title to be added will probably be Plants Vs Zombies GW as, that now has a micro transaction mechanism which will assist with supplementing the EA Access subscription. I can also see NFS rivals also going into the vault. I own both of these already Sad although NFS is on the PS4 so, would play again on the XB1.

Well, a lot of money changed hands there didn't it.

So I see two winners in this, MS will see some increased uptake of the Xbox One and Square Enix/Crystal Dynamics get to offload a whole bunch of development and marketing costs. I get it, I am old and have a working understanding of capitalism but I can understand the HUGELY negative reaction this has garnered. The console flame wars bore me to tears and pretty much every corner of the net has lit up with this.

So, what do you lot think?

I took my dad and a friend to go see this, as I'd heard good things and read a few of the comics in the past.

I've got to say, that this is one of the funniest, most enjoyable films I've seen in a while. The set pieces were good, the jokes funny and my concerns about the film where unfounded.

If you fancy a good sci-fi action comedy, this is for you.

  GRID Autosport

I doubt this will be that popular as, it is only 360/PS3 and PC and, most people on here now have jumped into the new generation of consoles.

Whilst I did in part enjoy GRID 2, it was not the best game. Did I learn any lessons there, yes and no. Unlike last time where I picked up the PS3 version on release and, when I got my gaming PC, I also grabbed it on PC. The PC version was superior in every way from the graphics in the most part but, also to the silky smooth 60fps that made the game feel better. This time I have learnt not to bother with the console version and, to jump straight into the PC version of the game.

I pre-ordered the Black Edition from Simply Games for the massive sum of £16.99 which, I thought was a fair price considering Steam are selling for £29.99. I do think it was a pricing error from Simply Games as, it is now £24.99 on the site. Last night, I got my code and, have pre-loaded onto the PC so I play tonight when I get home. Gone are the days where I stay up late to play at midnight when they flick the switch from pre-load to play LOL.

Codemasters have listened to the negative feedback from GRID 2 and, finally released the sequel to GRID that they should have released last time. They should have also done the right thing and allowed existing purchasers to buy the new version at a discounted price ;-) even though by getting on PC, the price I paid was already reasonable. Gone is the American shouty over the top presentation replaced with just a normal career mode. Destruction Derby is included from the start instead of as DLC and, the cars drive like cars instead of sideways drifters in all races.

I will post up some more later once I have smashed a few bumpers of the new shiny cars.

I'm a fan of survival horror and when this appeared on the store with no warning, I had to pick it up.

It's quite atmospheric and has a fun camera mechanic. A lot of the game you're sneaking about and hiding from mad men (Not Don Draper), but the problem comes when the mad men find you.

In this game you can't fight so when the mad men do catch you, you'd expect, that'd be that. But no, they hit you and you can run away. They can actually hit you about 3 or 4 times and the fear element goes rapidly.

That being said, this is still quite a creepy game and has made me jump a few times. So if that's your bag, pick this up, or else wait till it's free! Smile

After E3 showed us what is coming later this year and, mainly what we can expect in 2015, what's on your hit list for this year.

I have put together a little list of games I plan to pick up on day of release along with titles for my Christmas Santa wish list. I also have another few games only watch list.

They are as follows :-

Metro Redux - PS4 - 25/7/14
Halo Master Chief Edition - Xbox One - 11/11/14
FIFA 2015 - PS4 - 23/9/14
Battlefield Hardline - PS4 - 21/10/14
Call of Duty Advanced Warfighter - Xbox One - 4/11/14
Plants vs Zombies GW - PS4 - 19/8/14
Forza Horizon 2 - Xbox One - 30/9/14
Driveclub - PS4 - 10/10/14

Possible Christmas games

Little Big Planet 3 - PS4 - Nov 14
GTA 5 - PS4 - 28/11/14
The Crew - PS4 - 11/11/14
PS Vita TV - Late 2014

Ones to watch

Destiny (PS4/XB1)
Diablo 3 (PS4/XB1)
Tom Clancy The Division (PS4/XB1)
Dragon Age 3 (PS4/XB1)
Fable Legends (XB1)
Sunset Overdrive (XB1)

Also, I have Grid Autosport on pre order for PC which is out next Friday. Dits is playing a review copy and, whilst he cannot say anything due to a review curfew, when I asked if it was the GRID that GRID 2 should have been he just said, he can't say but, pre order lol.

  Battlefield Hardline (Multi)

During E3, it was announced that, instant access was available NOW on the PS4 for this. In turn, PSN melted as thousands of PS4 logged in at the same time.

In the melee and, due to no knowledge by me as to how you triggered this instant beta, I could not find it. I looked in the store, I booted BF4 to see if it was in there and, looked on battle log. What I didn't know was you just left the BF4 tile highlighted and, u popped the option. Sadly, by the time I found this, all the keys were gone. I resigned myself to just registering for a beta code.

During the night, my beta code arrived. When I got in tonight, I opened the interwebs and let all the little 1's and 0's our down into my PS4 to slowly form the beta. An hour and, a few presses of X and, I was into the game.

Now, I love my Battlefield 4 and, you can instantly see and feel BF4 in this game. In fact, I would say they have the same DNA beneath the skin. This for me is not a bad thing. I have only played a fed games of Heist and, it is cops vs robbers although, rather chaotic. Mainly due to me, like other players having no real idea what to do. As the robbers, The idea is to steal money from various locations on the map and, assist your team to get away with it. A bit capture the flag. The cops, have to stop them.

From what I have played, it was more a case of each team having a shoot out with the other team. Some were playing seriously, the occasional motorbike whizzing off with cop cars in chase but, it felt very unstructured in the game I was in.

I will return to try some blood money to see how that plays.

The beta was stable, no crashes of hassle getting into a game. Someone might say there are minor hit issues but, I don't play serious to see any minor niggles.

If there is no single player in the full game, which I'm sure there will be, this does feel a little like it could have been BF4 DLC. Im sure there will be much much more in the full game that, will make it feel more standalone than DLC.

I have not been put off the game :-) it's still probably a day one purchase for me.
